This is a life changing, career changing moment, this is a moment Ed had, comes maybe once or twice in a lifetime, that the whole world can see what someone is really made of, who they really are. That he even invited Macklemore on the tour, knowing his stance, that he would most certainly say, to 90k people, "Free Palestine" and that it would certainly cause a reaction. Then he kicks his "friend" from said tour, is the ultimate stab in the back, and the front. Such owardice , it's embarrassing and reprehensible, in equal measure.

I think this is one of the stronger criticisms of Ed I’ve heard, and seeing the other artists walk away has absolutely made me question his decision more. He has extraordinary wealth and leverage, and I wish he had found a way to take a stronger stand. But I still don’t think the other artists leaving proves quite what you’re suggesting. An opening act can decide for themselves that they’re willing to walk away. Ed refusing to continue the tour would make that decision for hundreds of other people too. His wealth gives him far more ability to absorb the consequences, absolutely, but it doesn’t give him the ability to absorb every consequence for everyone else. And I think “taking a stand was possible” oversimplifies what happened. Ed says he spent the week trying to persuade the venues to reverse course and find another solution before the promoter ultimately removed Macklemore. You can think he should have gone further. I increasingly wish he had. But continuing the tour doesn’t mean he did nothing until other artists showed him what having principles looks like. I also keep coming back to something that feels important in all of this. Had Macklemore never spoken at Ed’s concert, the death, displacement and destruction in Gaza would be exactly as real, yet we wouldn’t suddenly be using Ed Sheeran’s willingness to jeopardize his tour as a measure of his moral character. Macklemore chose to use that stage to take a principled stand, and I respect him for it. But that choice also put Ed into a situation he didn’t create and left him facing a decision that otherwise wouldn’t have existed. I can admire the artists who walked away, wish Ed had done more, and still think there’s a difference between a missed opportunity to take a stronger stand and proof that someone lacks a backbone or moral fortitude. What’s happening to Palestinians deserves enormous moral urgency. I just don’t think recognizing that requires every difficult question about what everyone else is obligated to sacrifice in response to suddenly have an obvious answer.
