YES! The other day we were doing a project. And every direction led to the entire class talking. But the directions were “grab your blue crayon.” And they would all start talking before I could say anything else! I finally told them that they’re in third grade. We learned colors a long time ago. There is no reason it should take that many voices to pull out a blue crayon.

I used a stopwatch today. I started it when I had to stop talking and stopped when they quieted. I’ll start taking recess play time away. They’ll still go outside but they’ll walk laps for the amount of my time they waste.

What about the constant noise .. like not even talking.. humming, singing, tapping...I asked my class today "Can you hear yourselves?" They all said YES... they can't handle silence.

I keep telling my class that your book, pencil pouch, etc... is not voice activated. Your book opens with your hands, you do not need to talk to it in order for it to open. It's not an Alexa.
