@kellystonejohnson: There are pictures that other people take of you that end up meaning more than they will ever know. This is definitely one of those pictures for me. ❤️ Today was Boyd’s day at Nourished. By the time we got there, I was running behind, my head was pounding, I had broken my glasses on the way to Roanoke, and I was just exhausted. We have been running back and forth to Roanoke all week for doctors appointments, bloodwork, testing, and treatments, and we have another appointment tomorrow in Daleville. I think today my body finally said, “That’s enough.” Nicole gave me a shot for my headache, and I sat down beside Boyd and closed my eyes for what I thought would be just a minute. Well, the next thing I knew, Boyd’s IV session was almost over. While I was sound asleep, Nicole had changed out his IV bag, started his other one, given him his glutathione push, and even took a picture of his IV bag for me because she knows I always take a picture of exactly what he is getting. I was so tired today I hadn’t even thought about taking one. Then she showed me the picture she took of me and Boyd while I was asleep. She told me that the entire time I was asleep, my hand was still holding Boyd’s arm straight so he wouldn’t bend it and stop his IV from dripping. Apparently Mama can be completely knocked out and still somehow be on duty. But what really means so much to me is that Nicole could have woken me up at any point. She didn’t. She saw how tired I was and just let me sleep. She took care of my boy, handled everything he needed, took the picture of his IV bag because she knew I would want it, and let me have a little bit of rest. And I’m telling you, that was probably some of the best sleep I have had in a long time. I’m usually the one behind the camera. I’m taking the pictures, recording the videos, keeping track of what Boyd is getting, asking questions, watching his IV, holding his arm, and trying to remember every single thing. I very rarely get to just close my eyes and know somebody else has everything handled. So Nicole, I hope you know how much today meant to me. You didn’t just take care of Boyd today. You took care of his mama too, and I needed it more than I even realized. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care of my boy, for helping my pounding head, for seeing that I was exhausted and just letting me sleep, and for taking this picture without me even knowing it. I will cherish this picture for a very long time. Not because it is a perfect picture, but because of what it shows. My hand still holding onto my boy even while I slept, and someone else quietly taking care of both of us for a little while. Sometimes you don’t realize how tired you are until somebody makes you feel safe enough to rest. Today, Nicole did that for me. And I am so, so grateful. ❤️ #nourishedivdripbar #leucovorin #lifewithboyd #autism #nonverbal
