I live in Michigan and all I have to do is just close the water in the basement and then open the faucet outside and that’s all you have to do. Never had a freezing issue.

Just turn off the water to the faucet and drain it. It’s the only way it works

Turn your valve off and then turn the spigot on to release the water in the line and spigot.

Those shut offs actually articulate well inside the wall..totally unnecessary to cover outside as it's not air tight anyways
