@chriscerney: Protesters marched through Salinas Tuesday to oppose a proposed 10-year agreement between Monterey County and Flock Safety. The published proposal would add 40 license plate cameras, bringing the agreement’s total to 103, at a cost of nearly $2.8 million over a decade. Demonstrators raised concerns about privacy, surveillance and access to the data. The Sheriff’s Office says the cameras help solve crimes and cites restrictions on federal and out-of-state data sharing. The proposal is scheduled to return to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors September 22. #Salinas #MontereyCounty #FlockSafety #CentralCoast #LocalNews

If you have nothing to hide then why worry. You have no expectation of privacy in public.

stop calling them licence plate cameras. they are just “surveillance cameras + digital spyware via BT, cellular, and more”. also they hog bandwidth in emergency cellular bands critical for emergency medical and fire teams.

Frankly, the town isn't big enough. Say the housing development in Boranda started. Then, upon completing it, I would say yes, after a few years, to survey the crime with the new addition and population.

Nah it’s safe, people who don’t like don’t act right in public. Hopefully this will make the weirdos act right knowing they on camera. I don’t got a issue w it cuz I know I don’t do bad shit😂

honestly, I would understand cameras in places like old stage or other streets out there with cameras since there's little to no traffic majority of the day. But watching citizens as opposed to talking to them makes no sense. Push back to dystopia 💯
