In the Cowlitz Valley, the threat of flooding worries locals. Scientists are not yet sure whether the debris avalanche that holds back Spirit Lake at the foot of the mountain is stable. If it goes as it did during previous eruptions, when pyroclastic flows blocked the lake's outlet, it'll wipe out everything up to Longview.
