London Izabella-Ryén Gadd was a 12-year-old girl from Ovid, Michigan, whose life tragically ended on August 1, 2024. London was an athletic, artistic, and deeply empathetic seventh-grade student at Ovid-Elsie Area Schools. She played soccer year-round, loved reading her Bible, and dreamed of one day joining the U.S. Air Force and becoming a commercial pilot. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, London experienced increased anxiety and was prescribed the SSRI antidepressant Prozac. Her family later became concerned about the harmful self-harm and suicide-related content that had been appearing in her social-media feeds. After losing her daughter, London’s mother, Charay Gadd, turned her grief into advocacy. She founded a nonprofit organization and began sharing London’s Story in an effort to raise awareness about children's safety, mental health, social media, and the effects that online platforms can have on young people. 🕊️ LONDON'S LAW Charay has advocated for London’s Law, a proposed amendment to Michigan’s Public Health Code that would require medical professionals to consider and exhaust alternative therapeutic options before prescribing antidepressants to children and teenagers. 📱 KIDS OVER CLICKS Charay has also championed Kids over Clicks, a legislative package focused on protecting Michigan children from potential harms associated with social media, artificial intelligence, and exploitative algorithms, while seeking greater accountability from Big Tech companies. 🍕 KEEPING LONDON'S STORY IN THE COMMUNITY In September 2026, during Suicide Prevention Month, Val’s Pizza in Owosso partnered with Charay Gadd to place London’s photo and information about London’s Law on pizza boxes, helping bring awareness to families throughout the community. In July 2025, the American Legion Riders made a special stop in Ovid during their cross-state “Hell to Paradise” motorcycle ride to honor London’s memory and support awareness surrounding youth mental health. London was only 12 years old, but her life, dreams, and story continue to inspire conversations about protecting children and creating safer environments both online and in the real world. 🕊️ Remember London.
