@chriscerney: A Salinas man has been convicted after prosecutors say he entered a home during a family birthday party and targeted a 7-year-old girl. A Monterey County jury found Sonny Velasco, 33, guilty on September 14 of four counts, including a lewd act on a child under 14, assault with intent to commit a lewd act, indecent exposure during an unlawful entry, and resisting a peace officer, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors say the girl broke free after Velasco grabbed her wrist and ran to her mother. Family surveillance cameras captured him entering and leaving the home, the DA’s Office said. Sentencing is scheduled for October 27. Velasco faces up to nine years and eight months in prison and will be ordered to register as a sex offender.
