The low rpm warning horn, is when the main rotor blades are spinning at a lower than normal speed. That sound you hear is indicating to the pilot he needs to increase power (aka throttle (gas). It’s super dangerous because the blades aren’t creating enough lift and if it loses enough rotational energy it becomes almost impossible to recover. It appears to me as if the helicopter went into an autorotation state (disconnecting engine from rotor blades), depending on the helicopter and situation, the pilot response generally involves lowering collective immediately to reduce rotor drag and restoring RPM with the appropriate throttle/power input. In an autorotation, preserving rotor RPM is especially critical but he just did not have enough time / space / power or altitude to “pull up”. So to answer your question yes there is another option and that would be performing an autorotation landing which pilots practice all the time, but pilots only have about 1-2 seconds to go into autorotation state (depending on the helicopter & situation) if they miss that window it’s almost impossible to autorotate safely. Hope that helps a little.
