Replying to @kyayira Were there prophets sent to the Baganda or other tribes in Uganda? 🤔📖 Bashir responds to a question asking him to name the prophets sent specifically to the Baganda tribe, based on Qur’an 14:4, which says Allah did not send a messenger except in the language of his people so that he could make the message clear to them. But does the Qur’an give us the names of every prophet and messenger Allah sent? No. Allah says in Qur’an 40:78 that there were messengers whose stories were told to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and others whose stories were not told to him. So if we do not find the name of a particular prophet connected to the Baganda, Lugbara, or another people in the Qur’an, we should not claim that Allah did not send a messenger to them simply because their name is not mentioned. Bashir also discusses the well-known hadith about the special characteristics given to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, including that he was sent to all people, unlike earlier prophets who were sent to particular peoples. The Qur’an makes this universal mission very clear: قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا “Say, O mankind! Indeed, I am the Messenger of Allah to you all.” — Qur’an 7:158 And: وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ “We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.” — Qur’an 21:107 The message brought by the prophets was fundamentally the same: يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ “O my people, worship Allah.” We see this repeated with Nuh, Hud, Salih, and Shuʿayb عليهم السلام. So the lesson is simple: Allah sent guidance to humanity, but the Qur’an does not name every prophet who was sent. We should distinguish between what Allah explicitly revealed to us and what we do not know.
