I actually live by this philosophy though slightly different from his'. Using my words now, it's "If you are bound to regret your decisions, then choose the regret you would bear to live with." It doesn't negate the fact that you will regret both, instead it focuses on the conviction of a person to endure a decision (the one he chooses) knowing the weight of what's to come but is still willing to face it head on.

I agree, though I'd argue that the hardest part isn't choosing which regret to live with, but accepting that the version of ourselves who made the other choice will always exist only in our imagination. We can never know whether the road not taken would've been worth its own price.
