Here is what I do when I am repairing wires when you can’t lose any length. This is all 18ga wire, transmission signal tan wires and the Black wire I am adding is 18 ga. It may look and may play theatrics with your eyes because of the color and finish difference. I’m using Lawson 18ga single insulation wire.When repairing or overlying a wire are you always want to use the same exact gauge wire. Transmission wires are running through this main harness, I am repairing several wires that were rubbed through and corroded on the transmission side and on the engine side as you can already see with my purple wires this was a pretty bad rub through. When you’re just an inch short and you can’t find the inch you need to lengthen your wires in order to lengthen your wires correctly. You need to understand how it’s rooted and wrapped . The other major decision while repairing is this going to interfere with the next technicians work? Meaning, if somebody goes into my work, am I withholding somebody from doing their work? It comes down to routing purposes if you have everything rooted correct correctly it should be good. Again, I always think about the person ahead of me in the future because that person could be me. I chose to clip this wire in a loop pattern. There are several different ways that you can wire in wires and make connections. This way is a great way to not have your wire break or have high resistance from it folding in half. I loop it around and then dead end it on the other end with protection hanging over the edge of the clip, pinched off with my tool. Doing these wiring repairs is so much fun because they’re not the same every time. You really need to critically think sometimes how are you gonna do this to make it work and not pull out. There is no length to play with when you start cutting wires that have no length already. Work smarter, not harder.
