🚨 #BREAKING TWO MISSING MOTHERS FOUND DEAD INSIDE SUBMERGED JEEP IN MICHIGAN HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED🚨 This is absolutely heartbreaking. The search for two young mothers who disappeared over the weekend has ended in tragedy. Authorities have officially identified the women as: 23-year-old Alexa Navarro and 24-year-old Vanessa Bautista Both women were from South Bend, Indiana, and had been missing since the early morning hours of Sunday, September 13. The women had reportedly gone out with friends Saturday night and were last seen after dropping off a friend following a night out. Then they disappeared. Family members began searching. Police departments across multiple jurisdictions became involved. Investigators started working with available cellphone and vehicle information trying to determine where the women had gone. Family members said their last pinned location was in Niles, Michigan. Then on Tuesday came the discovery everyone had been desperately hoping would NOT happen. Police located the gray 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee connected to the women. It was submerged in the St. Joseph River in Niles. Inside were two women. Initially, authorities could only say their clothing matched the descriptions of Alexa and Vanessa. Their families were notified while investigators waited for official identification. On Wednesday, the medical examiner confirmed the devastating news: It was Alexa and Vanessa. Police believe the Jeep went over an embankment before entering the river. Investigators say the vehicle appears to have been damaged as it traveled through trees, down the bank and into the water. But there are still major unanswered questions. How did their Jeep end up in that river? What happened during the hours after they were last seen? And most importantly: How did Alexa and Vanessa die? As of now, their causes of death remain pending. Police have said there is currently no indication that an outside force caused the damage to the Jeep, but investigators have NOT finished determining whether any criminal activity was involved. So until those answers come from investigators and the medical examiner, I'm not going to turn unanswered questions into accusations. Right now, two families are grieving. Two young women went out one night and never came home. And children have lost their mothers. Their names were: ALEXA NAVARRO — 23 VANESSA BAUTISTA — 24 Whatever investigators ultimately determine happened on that riverbank, their families deserve answers, compassion and the space to grieve.
