I think what we’re kinda missing here is that your average fan of anime/manga are high schoolers and middle schoolers- they’re genuinely the age demographic- when they grow up and maintain these “crushes” it’s weird. Weird asl I would say. In the case of men being more weird it’s not necessarily true, but they do usually look SIGNIFICANTLY younger (like preteen) because a lot of mangakas have children fetishes- it’s not really equal, but when put into perspective; grown ass men simping over preteen girls is weird, and grown women simping for highschoolers is also what? Weird, but one DOES usually look “older” than the other- I would argue a pedo that goes for 12 year olds and a pedo that goes for 16 year olds are equally evil, but one does have more “shock value” and can foster more hatred than the other-
