2007 Chevy Colorado | 143k Miles | HVAC Fan Inop: I repaired a bad ground under the hood of this truck last year, which was causing the HVAC fan to not work because there was not ground getting to the blower switch, even with no loads present. After fixing the ground the fan worked perfectly for a little over a year, until last week. The customer was upset from the first call, asking why the fan would just quit working again and demanding that we fix it for free. I told him, if it’s the same problem as last time I’ll take care of it for no charge, but we need to diagnose it first and figure out why it’s not working. Turns out the blower motor had failed and it needed a new connector. During his last visit I documented the entire diagnosis and repair process like always and reminded him what we found last time when he was upset that his blower motor resistor would still have an issue on speed 3. He declined the resistor repair last time, and again this time. But, once we explained what we found last time again, and what we found this time, he was very nice and not upset with us anymore. A lot of times as a tech, I used to take it personal when people would be mad at me or my shop, when I’m just trying to help fix the issue. People aren’t usually mad at us, their mad at their car.
