I would make sure you get life lock!! Since they know your social , cars, address. I had someone using my health insurance and my company suggested life lock after the investigation so no one could access even my cards.

My husband fell for a huge scam involving Meta and he works in the software industry, so don’t feel bad! We luckily caught it right before any major damage was done, but it can definitely be scary.

Last year someone called me and I answered because it didn’t say scam. They said they had my daughter and I PANICKED. Then I heard a little girl’s voice in the background asking for her mom. My daughter never calls me “mom”, she calls me “mama”. I knew to hang up but I was so scared and immediately called her school. The school staff physically went to find her to make sure she was in school and I was so relieved. Then I called the police to report the call. People SUCK. Scammers suck.

Here’s to a better day for you! People are so judgy especially when something like this has never happened to them but the way you were describing the phone call it definitely puts you in a head space of “get this taken care of as soon as possible” You definitely did the right thing by going to the sheriff’s office. ❤️

I’m a CPA and the amount of people that fall for scams everyday is crazy. Don’t feel bad they are getting more and more sophisticated. I tell my clients them expressing such a sense of urgency is a red flag.

Don’t be embarrassed— and you have every right to be shaken up about the whole situation. Since the scammers know a lot of your personal information please make sure you freeze your credit with all 3 credit unions and definitely set up monitoring through life lock or something similar. Your personal info can be used fraudulently for more than just opening new bank accounts etc.

My dad died last month and someone called my mom asking for her routing info. The reason, “we own you money for over payment on the funeral expenses.” Luckily my mom said, “send the check and hung up.”

First I’m obsessed with these daily fit checks I love your style and second it’s so important you share your experience because these scammers count on people not sharing so they can get to many more people not dumb at all I feel like so many people including me would feel the same way about the legal stuff especially when they use terminology and peoples names who are legit police

It happened to me as well - I’m in Monmouth county & I was traumatized to lol . Wasted 35 mins of my life don’t feel alone , they told me I was going to get detained till my “court date” 😅
