Omg I say this all the time we teach kids all these things and many they don’t use in their adulthood but all the key fundamentals are missing. I know you do the sessions at schools but do you have an online version or recording I could share with my Y9 son who has just started working and learning about saving etc?

This has been true for decades. The amount of people in their 40’s who still believe you buy a house, pay it off completely and then start investing is insane. A huge percent of people don’t understand compound interest. And the amount of people spending $100,000 on a car with no investment outside of super kills me. This is vital to be learn before the age of 18! I’m so glad you’re trying to get this out there.

Sorry but it’s not taught anywhere, school, University etc and there’s definitely a very good reason why but no one will ever say the quiet part out loud or the whole system will fail.

I work in Hr and onboard mainly School leavers, it's surprising that they are not taught the basics like a Tax file Declaration. They don't know what the Tax free Threshold is. I'm often asked " what is Superannuation"?

The government runs schools, and they simply don’t promote it. I don’t know why.

i couldn’t agree more, my time during school left financial literacy completely absent. All of my understanding of the subject has come from my own research. It’s a disappointing reality that most kids/teens only figure this stuff out too late

My take, if it’s anything like NZ, schools and those that set curriculum have an outdated view that personal finances are personal and therefore something that should be taught at home.

"Commerical Principles" was a subject in year 10 during the late 1960s. It taught me basic accounting, investing in shares vs property, compound interest, why gambling doesn't work over time

teachers are compliant in an indoctrinated education system not set up for critical thinking, I know because unfortunately after leaving the private sector I thought I would go into education. Boy 😳was I not prepared how many teachers now are not critical thinkers ...couldn't wait to get out. The bullying is off the charts, many care more about the pay check and holidays, no not kidding, they told me to my face

the government doesn't want people, our kids knowing/having financial literacy because it's about control, keeping people poor. It's not broken it's by design, the governments design.
