For John, it was a ritual washing in preparation for the arrival of the Messiah. Jesus being baptized was an announcement/fulfillment of that preparatory movement. Likewise, when Jesus later washes feet it’s a similar cleansing but if you’ve already ritually cleansed you just need to get the dust off

Jesus was baptized not because He had sinned, but to show that He was fully obeying God and beginning His mission to save people. John the Baptist was baptizing people who were turning away from sin, and Jesus chose to stand with them even though He was sinless. When Jesus came out of the water, the Holy Spirit came down like a dove, and God the Father said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” So Jesus’ baptism was basically His public way of saying, “I am ready to do what God sent Me to do.”

No this is why I don’t get why people say Alex o Conner is this great debater who has all this knowledge when most of the time he doesn’t even debate he ask questions. His thing is philosophy. Baptism isn’t to bring you into the “Christian faith” the point about Christianity is having a relationship with God. Not about being apart of a religion. But if he actually reads the Bible he would know what baptism is when Jesus is having a conversation with nicodemus Jesus tells him you need to be born again through water be born with the spirit and that’s baptism. When Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit came down on Jesus like a dove to show Jesus is the messiah he is the one everybody was waiting for it was John’s mission to bring this man to Israel on top of that all the symbolism Jesus was the perfect example of how humans should be and act. That’s why we are called to be Christ like. He showed us how to pray how to fast how to love and yes how we need to be born again. I’d love to actually talk to this Alex guy I’d love to help him understand the book he loves to talk about

I think the most plausible answer is that John the Baptist had his own understanding of Judaism, and that he had disciples - Jesus being one of them. Once John died, Jesus saw himself as the successor to the path that John wanted to put forth

Jesus was baptized into Judaism, as both he and John the Baptist were observant Jews living within 1st-century Second Temple Jewish culture. Jesus never called himself a Christian, nor was he ever part of a religion by that name. He was born, lived, taught, and died as a Jew.

if you want a better understanding onnthe while topic, you meed to start at (Mikvah). Milvah is/was a ritualistic immersion into water as a symbolic form of ritualistic purification. You completed a Mkivah to reset your spirituality and prepare for ministry. Mikvah was the waahing after menstration that cleaned a woman. Milvah was thw ritualistic washing the Isrealites had to complete before the Isrealiste met God along with Moses at the foot of the mountian. If a priest or person touched a body/corpse, they preformed a Mkivah in order to reset amd be considered clean in order to enter thw temple and resume their ministeriamountain. The truth is, Jesus didnt haveto be reset from anything, nor purified from anything, nor ne cleansed from anything g but remember what he said, "im come not to abolish the law but to fulfill it". Jesus completed the Mikvah because the Law required it and Jesus satisfied every single gle requirement so we wouldn't have to. He went to John to fulfill thw prophecy of the "one calling in the desert who makes atraing the path to the Lord". He was baptized not to start a new tradition, but to set an example, fulfill the law, and step into the ministry he ws about to begin.
