Today, African Cinema mourns the passing of one of the men whose talent, discipline and body of work helped shape the story of our film industry. OLUDOTUN BAIYEWU JACOBS — OLU JACOBS. For generations, we watched him command the screen. We watched him bring kings, fathers, leaders, villains and unforgettable characters to life. But beyond the characters was a man whose contribution to African theatre, television and cinema became part of the foundation upon which generations after him would build. His career spanned decades and crossed borders, from the stage and television in Britain to the growth of Nigerian and African cinema. His legacy cannot be measured by the number of films he appeared in alone, but by the standard he represented and the generations he inspired. The African Cinema was created to honour the people who gave their lives, talent and sacrifice to African storytelling. It is therefore with profound respect that we announce that THE AFRICAN CINEMA POSTHUMOUS AWARD OF HONOUR will be conferred upon the late OLU JACOBS, in recognition of his immense contribution to African Cinema and his enduring legacy. Some legends receive their flowers while they are here. Others become the flowers from which an entire generation continues to grow. Olu Jacobs, your work will live. Your legacy will speak.
