How they want varkas to do after he put Thalia in a safe place (specifically made for her btw) but when he was in the red zone and trying to kill the other dragons and he saw Thalia who try to go to him but in they split second he had to turn around to help another person that had a dragon infront coming for them, and that dragon took thalia in a split second:
