@thehomeruler: Why do we treat politicians like celebrities? They’re public servants and civil servants. Their job is to serve the public — just like the people who serve us every day. If a waiter gives you terrible service, you complain. If a bartender does a great job, you might leave a tip. But when it comes to politicians, somehow we’re expected to treat them like untouchable celebrities. Why? And why do we mock people for being “nosy” or call them “Karens” when they speak up about something happening in their own communities? There’s a difference between being intrusive and being socially responsible. A society where nobody wants to get involved, ask questions, report suspicious behavior, or hold people accountable can become a society where wrongdoing goes unnoticed. Maybe we’ve got the wrong idea about what it means to “mind your own business.” Public servants work for the public. And the public should be paying attention. #Politics #PublicService #CivicResponsibility #Accountability #Community
