The fact that Starbucks wouldn’t give anyone free water during this…. Sick.

My dad was there desperately searching for a working payphone at ground zero so he could call my mom, who was back home in Boston pregnant with me. She was watching the news and had no idea if he was alive, all she knew was that he had meetings at the WTC that week. 12 years later he was standing at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. When the bombs went off he once again couldn’t get ahold of my mom because he let a woman who had gotten separated from her family use the last of his phone battery to find them. He was there with his company and they called to tell us that he was the only employee unaccounted for. I can’t even imagine being my mother and having to go through that fear TWICE

This year i learned a majority of people who “jumped” wasn’t willful, the air pressure was so strong it sucked them out

I don't like to listen to anyone's last phone calls. It feels too invasive but maybe that's just me. That was a message meant for their loved ones, not the world. I wouldn't want my private final words to be shared like that

i heard several calls this year I haven't heard before, one was the lady on a desk saying it was to hot and she was burning alive before jumping, one was a call to a mother and she told her son to go be with people so he wouldn't have do die alone on the phone with her, another was a call cut off as the 2nd tower was falling and the last words were "oh my God OH MY G-". 25 Years later and they still aren't forgotten

The phone call with the man who says “we’re young men we don’t want to die” and the. You hear the tower collapse. That one haunts me.

If you ever have a chance to visit the 9/11 museum, they have a whole room dedicated to these phone calls. You walk up and pick up the phones in front of you, and it will either be someone’s last words from the air, or someone on the ground trying to reach them before it’s over. So incredibly sad.🙏

I understand the function of it and keeping things for the historic aspect but gosh imagine experiencing just one of the worst moments of your life and someone is filming you.

9/11 caused my mom to have a miscarriage from all the stress of even just watching it on tv, two months later she got pregnant with me. It’s wild to think that if this never happened, I wouldn’t be here but it’s how it all happened

I lived in NJ a town where a lot of people commuted to the city. During 9/11 my house phone rang and it was just quiet on the other line. My mom kept yelling into the phone, “if you misdialed just tell me who you are or where you are! I will call for help.” No response ever came from the caller.

Things like this make me think about if I had only 30 seconds or so to talk to my loved ones over the phone, what I would say. I think we should always have things like that planned

once a teacher made us take home a packet of a paragraph or so from different 9/11 stories, my mom found me crying while reading them and joined me. she then went online to find some of the voicemails and we listened and cried together for hours
