it's interesting how contemporary horror treats liminal spaces: usually, a liminal place is a passage into something else (usually physical to spiritual and back), but in these pieces of media, you're usually stuck in limbo. I think that's a direct reflection of the current capitalist system; devoid of rituals, without clear boundaries of time and increasingly secular. it's why some of us didn't even notice how many years have passed since 2020. time never stops, and that's terrifying.
