🇫🇷Lavender dreams in Provence Seeing Valensole during lavender season had been on my list for a long time. Fields of lavender seem to stretch endlessly across the plateau, with little stone houses, olive trees and mountains in the distance. I especially loved the evenings, when the light made the colours even more beautiful, although that’s also when it gets busier. Mornings are usually much quieter. If you visit, remember that these are working fields, so stay on the paths, respect the farms and leave everything as you found it. Tips for your visit: • Best time: late June to early/mid-July, but bloom and harvest dates vary each year. • For fewer crowds: go in the morning; evenings are beautiful but usually busier. • Don’t chase one field: crops rotate, so famous photo spots can look different each year. • Check before you go: weather can shift the bloom and harvest dates. • Visit Valensole village too: the old centre is worth a quick stop between the fields. • Make a day of it: combine Valensole with Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Lac de Sainte-Croix or the Verdon. • Park properly: roads can get busy, so use safe pull-offs and designated parking. • Respect the fields: stay on paths and edges, and don’t pick or trample the lavender. Fantastic locations near the Plateau de Valensole: ☀️ Gorges du Verdon: Known as the “Grand Canyon of Europe,” this stunning gorge offers breathtaking views, hiking trails, and water activities like kayaking and swimming. ☀️ Moustiers-Sainte-Marie: A picturesque village nestled in the mountains, famous for its pottery and beautiful views. It’s also a gateway to the Gorges du Verdon. ☀️ Lac de Sainte-Croix: A serene lake with crystal-clear turquoise waters, perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking. ☀️ Aix-en-Provence: A vibrant city known for its historic architecture, bustling markets, and cultural sites. ☀️ Riez: a small Provençal town known for its historic centre and Roman remains ☀️ Manosque: a lively Provençal town with an old centre, cafés and local markets 👇Follow @zenwander for more travel tips. #southoffrance #travelfrance #europesummer #provencelife
