Yeahhhh..... Sedation is extremely risky, and I NEVER use it on my truck without snagging a BVM and an airway plan 😳 but Cops will straight up throw these calls on us "you can't refuse", "we're short staffed"

Many EMS services have inadequate training and oversight. It’s time to start holding the agency itself accountable. They know, it interferes with their bottom line so they take the risk. Look what happens when it goes bad. So why wouldn’t they roll the dice?

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I just cannot comprehend how there wasn’t a SINGLE person to say hold on.. wait a second, let’s take a beat.. is this necessary? Assess the situation and be the person that questions what everyone is doing. God I hope if I’m ever the first responder in that position I stop to assess the situation. I can’t stop crying after hearing the body cam footage..

Reality check: you have to give them something, or they will hurt themselves and/or others. Alternatives to Ketamine are more likely to lead to intubation

I was working for a neighboring fire district when this happened. We already had a policy in place to NOT accept Aurora FD medical help because they made too many simple medical errors that our medical director deemed them a risk to our patients. Including placing an IO site into a patella. Twice.
