One young girl pushed through the crowd and held out a small drawing of Ghana. Nkrumah bent down to look at it carefully. “Is this the future of Ghana?” he asked with a smile. “Yes!” the children shouted. He laughed, then encouraged them to study hard and help build their newly independent country. The children gathered around him, eager to shake his hand. As the event continued, the flags fluttered in the warm Accra breeze.
