On Sunday, September 13th, my husband and I were walking our dogs on their leashes down the sidewalk on the street we live when one of my dogs was attacked by a neighboring dog who was outside off leash, and they know he's aggressive. We got two doors down from our own house when we saw that the neighbor was out with her two very young children, and their known aggressive dog, H. She did not have any restraints on the dog. All she had on him was what I'm assuming is a shock collar. As soon as I saw the dog was out and loose, we quickly tried to back up and move away. Unfortunately, H was quicker. He charged at my dog Pluto, grabbed him by the face, and started pulling. My husband had the quick thinking of just holding Pluto as still as possible, because H had his ear in his mouth, and if any tugging or pulling continued, Plutos ear would be ripped off. I was having to sit on our other dog Klaus to keep him from getting involved, and my husband was doing everything he could to save our dogs ear and life. Thankfully a neighbor from across the street was able to come over and assist. He was trying to just pull the dogs apart but I could forsee the degloving. I yelled for him to stop and that he was going to have to punch H in the face until he let go. Finally, a few punches in, H let go. At this point is when the husband finally comes running out and sees that his dog has, once again, attacked mine. The first incident was February 20th of this year, H came running out of his house and attacked Pluto while we were walking by and Pluto was leashed. H got Pluto on the arm, owner came out and quickly removed them. The situation was handled very peacefully. He admitted to me that his dog is aggressive towards other animals and claimed it was a fluke. Well here we are, and it's a lot worse now. Ear laceration that required stitches to reattach the base of his ear, and a drain in his cheek to help with the torn skin and puncture wounds around his face and jaw. And this time around, the neighbor tried to be a total asshole. I didn't report the first attack because I didn't know there was a history and it seemed like an honest mistake. Not once have we been rude, called names, or been irrational. He's trying to claim that he has proof of our dog on his property, yet you can see in the screenshot that HE SENT ME where we were and his dog coming towards us. And conveniently, thats the only screen shot they took before the video was "overwritten"... So I guess this is just a PSA? Don't let your dogs outside off leash, and if you know your dog is aggressive, you need to do everything possible to prevent any situation from happening. It doesn't matter how well trained they are, or if they have recall. It doesn't matter if they're the nicest dog in the world to you and others. They are still an animal. Why put them and yourself in a position to be responsible for something like this happening? As pet owners, we have a responsibility of protecting our pets, and that includes not putting them in situations where they can be labeled the aggressor and be charged with the injury or possible death of another living thing. I'll be carrying protection with me from now on. Reports have been made. Charges are being pressed since they admitted they don't vaccinate him for Rabies. Pluto has been seen by a doctor and received the surgical care he needed. The bill was drastically less than it could have been since I went to my regular DVM instead of the emergency room and they did pay it after a comical phone call. The part that really irks me, is this dog is the name and mascot of his business. And he's taken this dog out to public events to advertise his company. It's just so irresponsible.
