My parents are divorced, but I’m pretty sure my dad has his poop in a group because of the farm. But my mom, oh boy. She was in the hospital about a month ago and had nothing written down and I’m the oldest I out of three kids. My brother brother and sister that we needed to get a power of attorney for my mom even though she doesn’t have nothing. They told me they were gonna keep me in the loop with decisions and everything else and they didn’t and now that Mom’s better and out of the hospital my mom has written a statement stating that I am the one that makes medical decisions for her, and if something should happen to her where she passes away, I make those decisions and not my brother not my sister.. they wasted my dad‘s money on a lawyer for my mom that wasn’t needed cause they borrowed money from my dad I guess from what I was told and both my dad and my stepmom told me that we didn’t need a lawyer Mom just had to write something out about her wishes.

My mom died September 10th, 2023. My kids and I searched for a week for paperwork my mother said was there. It. Was. Not. My daughter lives in AZ, me in GA, so we were tight on time before she went home. After day 2 of sorting and realizing it was gonna take years, She said "Mama. I love you. THROW AWAY YOUR OWN SHIT AND MAKE A WILL!!!!" I've been good about it. My family had a tradition I was unaware of. lol Someone died??? box their stuff and put it in the barn. We're still sorting, burning, donating and selling stuff 3 years after Mama, 14 years after her mom, 19 years after my dad, 28 years after my grandfather and 52 years after my great grandfather... My stuff will NOT end up in the barn.

I told my oldest a long time ago; cremated, ashes in one of those pots with the trees that grow. Plant it in a park when it gets big enough. Simple. He even knows what songs to play at the wake/party. None of the sad stuff!

As an oldest daughter whose dad passed recently, YES, HAVE THEM PAPERS SIGNED, NOTORIZED, ETC. Having to go through my dads stuff to take care of his estate, his final wishes, etc, is HELLA HAAAAAAAAAAARD! The papers were drswn up, but never signed, or notirized. The cost of a probate lawyer alone is around $4,000. you read that right: $4K, $4 THOUSAND, So have those papers done, in a special spot that ALL the children KNOW where they are. Sincerly: one STRESSED OLDEST DAUGHTER.

it was decided back when we were teenagers who is responsible for what when my mom got older there's only two of us so Paul my brother is in charge of the financial end of things until mom passes I'm in charge of the medical side of things she already has her book with everything set up in it learned this when we were teenagers I think that this is extremely important

I have 2 grown kids and they both know I have 5 wishes and how I want to go when I'm gone. I've kept it in a safe place with everything listed as it should be. I've never wanted my kids to be left trying to figure out what to do when I am gone like I had to do with my mom when she passed in September 29th 1992 34 years at the end of this month. my mom didn't have a will or anything. so my moms sister and her son took over and it was hell. I was 20 .y sister was 18 . my mom died at the age of 47. it was awful mess. I had to take my dad to court to get her buried . I didn't want to but it was what I had to do. so please if you don't have any thing in writing or video dated each year for your family I suggest you do. ty for bringing the awareness of death . bc most people don't like to talk about it.

I’m the oldest and my mom told me her wishes and she already made me POA but I am not medical POA cause I already told her I couldn’t do that and she would be on life support forever and that’s not what she wants so she made someone else medical POA so my mom has all her stuff together and I know exactly where it is.

My will gives everything good and bad to my younger brother and he gets the final say in my belongings. He has always helped every family financially when they needed help so I know he will do what's best and has earned every penny if he decides to keep it all to himself.

After my mom had her stroke, I made sure she had a health care directive because she wanted to make sure she was marked as DNR/DNI. Thankfully its just me and my Brother but we have joint POA, we're listed on her bank accounts and each have a copy of all mom's paperwork. Best thing our parents can do is have their wishes spelled out. The last thing we want is to be sitting in the hospital or funeral home trying to make the right decision. Thank you for speaking in this, its more important than we think.

I’m the middle and every single thing fell on me. My dad got sick. Caught cancer for 14 years. I was the one that helped my mom give my dad IV’s and when it became terminal I was the one that packed a bag every morning, went to work everyday, and spent the night in the hospital with my dad so my mom could go home and my dad was never left alone. I helped my mom with everything, cleaning out their house, planning the funeral and I took care of all her finances. For 15 years. My dad died in 2010 and my mom in 2025. When my mom got sick she lived with me until she died. My niece helped take care of her. My brothers did absolutely nothing. I planned her services and took care of getting rid of her house. Again I’m the middle child and did everything. Not everything falls on the oldest.

My parents, in their divine wisdom, created a will stating their worldly belongings were to be divided equally between my sibling and I as co-executors. Guess who never got along decades prior to the deaths of said parents? Guess who couldn't agree on one. Damn. Thing! There was a large "break-in/theft" incident, several years of animosity and arguments, arson (!!!) And eventually a shouting match in an attorney's office that ended with complete strangers hugging me while I lost my everloving shit. People, be SPECIFIC! Create a will that indicates who gets possession or control of every last item you own, where funds go and how everything gets where it's going. And for the love of all things holy, do NOT name multiple people to execute your wishes. One executor. And maybe make it an attorney so there's no sentimentality and bad feelings floating onto the process. (Yes, I'm an oldest daughter who no longer speaks to her parent's son who may or may not have 🔥 🏠)
