A Statement Regarding the Cancellation of My Nashville Book Launch Event: On Sunday, July 26, Bell Bird Books communicated that it no longer felt it could continue promoting either me or my upcoming Nashville book launch for White. Blonde. Jew. A Call to End Extremism, Speak Up, and Reclaim Center. On Tuesday, July 28, the bookstore informed my literary agent that it was canceling my August 20 book launch. This was not my decision. On July 29th, Bell Bird Books provided statements to The Tennessean expressing support for the event, despite the fact that it had already been canceled. I was never contacted by The Tennessean for comment. On Thursday, July 30, Bell Bird Books removed the event announcement from Instagram, deleting all public mention of my book launch without issuing any public statement that it had been canceled. As a proud Jewish author who believes deeply in free speech and the power of ideas, I am disappointed by what has transpired. This raises important questions about whether our society truly values the First Amendment and whether authors can express controversial or unpopular views without being canceled. There is nothing wrong with being proudly Jewish. There is nothing wrong with condemning antisemitism and extremism. These conversations should be encouraged, not avoided. My book, White. Blonde. Jew. is a call to reject extremism, defend intellectual freedom, and reclaim the center at a time when intimidation is replacing conversation. A new Nashville venue - and, if necessary, a new date - will be announced soon. All ticket holders will receive refunds, and I look forward to gathering with readers who believe ideas should be met with discussion and curiosity, not cancellation. This conversation is far from over.
