Last week I did a VERY light background career overview and then explained why that history mattered to (me today) and (role), forming my approach to (key responsibilities). Hopefully it worked

Spot on. This is the perfect opportunity to weave in “passion” and “enthusiasm” for the role you’re interviewing for.

I always improvise this one, and adapt to the interviewer’s reaction. It feels underprepared, but somehow it has never failed. I wonder whether actually preparing would help 😅

There’s no way I could say that without laughing because it sounds so theatrical 😂people don’t talk like that

Yes! I landed a dream job with a same day offer because I empathized my current experience, tied it into the role interviewing for and articulated the vision for professional growth correlative to the role.

Any thoughts on how to best approach this with a non linear background? also for interviews where you do not have the exact background they’d typically see (for example, coming from a different industry)

I prepare for every interview like media training: what does the interview usually talk about or care about, how friendly or not are they likely to be, what are messages I should absolutely HAMMER in the interview, verify if I've been clear at the end

What about this scenario: After my initial interview, the recruiter told me he would be moving me forward to a second interview pending approval from the hiring team. Then, three days later, I received another email from that SAME recruiter saying he reviewed my application and would love to schedule a phone interview. Like… didn’t we already do this? I’m genuinely confused.
