@calmmoneycoach: RDSP 2, TAKE EVERYTHING THE SYSTEM GIVES If someone in your family has the Disability Tax Credit, there's up to $90,000 of government money attached to it, and it only goes into one account. Two pots. The bond pays up to $1,000 a year with nothing from you, $20,000 lifetime. The grant is the match: 300 percent on the first $500 and 200 percent on the next $1,000, so $1,500 in brings $3,500. Both are income tested off the return from 2 years back, so 2026 runs off your 2024 return. Full grant sits below $117,045 of family income. Full bond needs $38,237 or less. Here's the part families miss. While your child is a minor it's your income being tested. From the year they turn 19 it's theirs, so the same child qualifies for everything whatever you earn. Which makes waiting look clever, and it isn't. Each year keeps the rate it had when it was earned. Waiting never upgrades an old year, it just takes time out of the account. One catch. The year they turn 19 is tested on the return from the year they turned 17. A 17 year old with no income has no reason to file. File it anyway. If you've got one of these open, where is it held? Only 2 of the 17 issuers let you hold stocks and ETFs. The full walkthrough and the entitlement calculator are in the community. Educational, not advice.

Brian, I was approved for DTC this year before I turned 51. Is there any exceptions to open the RDSP & be eligible for these grants/govt matching even though I missed the deadline at 49?

when did it change from 70 to 90k or is that with the bond rolled into it to? bonus you can invest your rdsp and since you cant touch it anyway it just makes money ontop of money for when you can.

I opened a RDSP at TD in June online but I still can’t add any funds to it. I followed the directions online so I’m not sure why it’s not allowing me.

I’ve always wondered if someone contributes the max for grant matching & they’re low income, in December, then they contribute the max again in January, & they’re still low income. Would the govt put 21,000 in grants into the account that second year?

Parent for a minor who qualifies. Am I understanding correctly - If I contribute on her behalf, she receives the grant based on our family income until she's able to start filing taxes independently?

When you receive the back payment for CCB payments, set the funds aside and get started setting up the RDSP. I was able to do it online fairly easily. there is a waiting period of 6-8 weeks for the government to approve the RDSP investment account (I went with TD self trade). You will have to call to confirm approval, you aren't notified. From there you should be able to transfer the credit funds into the RDSP and get that portion invested. then keep an eye out for any bonds and grants that follow and get those invested also. It's tempting to utilize the funds for other kid expenses but having that lump sum amount to get started on an investment is a game changer for your child long term.

Can I open one up for a minor for past years if they were just diagnosed? If so what is the process to do this and do you recommend opening with any specific bank? Minor currently has a RESP
