Your table is misleading. They raised the cap 50% temporarily for a promo, then they dropped it by 25% making a +25% increase pre promo. Additionally, we’re talking about higher usage with frontier models, but many people just don’t want to have better practices and use lower models. Sonnet is what opus was a year ago and people did fine. Frontier models make people lazier with their prompts and planning. I was getting work done with gpt-20b at one point.

How do you guys afford $200 for subscription for AI? For me, I'll barely can do $20 monthly and I only use it to study. Maybe some coding here and there. Even with that, my usage sometimes hit the limit and I'll just say oh well

That’s their plan all along. First, get everyone on board. Companies becoming to heavily rely on them and talented people becoming either obsolete or dulling their skills by forcing them to rely on AI. Once companies migrated to full AI and no longer be able to sustain on their own talent, raises the prices however they want.

The key point is that, yes. Monthly ≠ API cost. BUT, API cost ≠ actual dollar breakdowns of operating costs. Do you think Anthropic or OpenAI run their API at cost…? No. They’re making tons of money. They wouldn’t subsidize 98% of a Max 20 plan. They’d nuke their bottom lines.

b.s. you only use 700$ worth if tokens on a 20$ subscription if you're using it 24/7 and always using it the second the 5-hour an weekly quotas refresh. nost people don't come close to utilizing the full possible usage of the plan.
