@_girllockin: I moved my daughter’s 529 from Charles Schwab to a Maryland state-sponsored 529 plan with T. Rowe Price 💰📚 Why? TAXES. I realized that by contributing to Maryland’s 529 plan, I may be able to deduct eligible contributions on my Maryland state taxes. My Schwab 529 didn’t give me that same state tax benefit. The investment account wasn’t necessarily “bad” before — I just learned there was an option that made more sense for us. Another reminder that it’s not just about saving and investing… it’s also about understanding WHERE you’re putting your money and what benefits you could be leaving on the table. Always check your own state’s 529 benefits because every state is different! #529Plan #InvestingForKids #CollegeSavings #FinancialLiteracy #MoneyTips
I contribute to MD529 but have you read their reviews ? I got a little scared that ill never see that money 😳

I would suggest, max out the MD account at $2500 in order to get the match, and then continue to fund it elsewhere (the MD plans have high fees). This is what I’m doing.

Yes in Delaware they allow you to get it through Fidelity and they even give you $100 when you make a deposit of $100 or more!

“Saving 2500 on my state taxes” isn’t entirely true. You reduce your income by 2,500, not your taxes due

I love this! I’ve been saving my son’s in a brokerage account, but maybe I’ll switch. The 529 did confuse me, I’m also in MD. Do they have webinars or anything to walk you through it?

Also for those without kids but who want some one day - you can open one for yourself and then transfer it to your kids name when they’re born! Even $10 a month is a start!

Unfortunately Google Gemini said: “California is one of the few states with an income tax that does not offer a state income tax deduction or credit for contributing to any 529 plan.”

It’s just $2500, right? Even if you contribute more? It’s not automatic tho right you have to report it?

The idea of building something that can keep operating outside my normal working hours appealed to me. I’ve had months around 7,000 in sales from my online business, although there’s still plenty of work behind the scenes.
