@thetimes: A village in Oxfordshire has voted to leave the UK in protest against a proposed asylum centre nearby.⁠ ⁠ Piddington, which has a population of 358, voted 285 in favour, 26 against and had one spoilt vote in a symbolic referendum to become independent. The turnout was nearly 92 per cent, with 312 votes.⁠ ⁠ There is no legal mechanism for a village, town or city to leave the UK.
