I’m curious what should be the thing keeps the conversation within that discussion. If you are talking to someone who has made up their mind on a topic, then a general discussion is sort of dismissing the fact they have come to a conclusion on it. I’m all for a good discussion, but both parties have to want it to be a discussion for it to be fruitful. In the same way that you are frustrated with the fact they have an answer they are trying to convince you of, they are frustrated that you are forcing them to question the legitimacy of their belief.

I feel you, totally. At the same time don't forget inquisitive minds always have the upper hand. You can always turn their answers back at them with even more penetrating questions (Socratic method). The resolution offered is a bait, it's up to you if you'll bite. Maybe even up to you to determine who / what's about to get fished 👌

then the conversation should acknowledge that no answer is needed. if a math teacher presents ti the class on a board "1+1= " but follows up with im not looking for the solution, I could say its 500 and know im wrong, I just dont want you to acknowledge that im wrong, just understand that you need to enter this conversation with the idea that I could be right by saying its 500, and in several sentences I might says no buts its negative 2, or is its 23? Who can ever know what this means? please dont ever say its 2. because now I feel attacked

Teach me how to do this! Because I need answers even if the answer is "there is no answer" - "I am absolutely certain that I am certain of nothing!" But that can also be perceived as apathy or reticence, which I experientially reject.
