@toju_pensions: *Correction* - £27,000 ÷ 54 is exactly £500. Although the Treasury Order can be negative, it would need to be below −1.5% for the NHS revaluation to reduce this amount. NHS pension scheme is a CARE scheme (a type of Defined Benefit scheme). This video explains it as simply possible. #pensions #pension #retirement #nhs #nhspension

What im confused about is everyone month 8.3 percent is deducted from my salary which is around £240 pounds a month so how am i only getting around £500 a year in pension pot if more is being taken out of my salary?

It’s an expensive scheme to be a member in. If like me you’re paying around £300 a month so £3600 a year into the NHS pension you need to live a lot of years after retirement age to get your money back, this is the maths I struggle with the most, the 2015 scheme is tied to the state pension age too which makes things worse because they keep putting it up.

What really pisses me off is that I had worked for boots pharmacy for 27 years paying a pension the whole time and when I went to work for the NHS no one bothered to tell me I could merge that pension with my nhs one. You only have about 8-10 months to do it and then you can’t. It’s really annoying!

I think it would be easier to understand if you talk about let’s say 3 different salary bands and show us how much will come out as a pension contribution and how much we will get at 68 or 55. Don’t over complicate it with other figures or oranges please 🙏🏽

the NHS pension is a defined-benefit pension, rather than a normal personal pension pot. Your contribution isn't buying a pot of money with your name on it. Instead, you're paying a percentage of your pensionable salary to participate in a scheme that promises you a calculated income in retirement. It isn't very clear from employers

So in that sense a £27000 salary pays £2400 a year but only get £500? Is what most of you are thinking. But remember this if you did one year payed in £2400 your pension from the nhs will be £500 a year for your pension. For the rest of your life. You could have 30 years of pension so you make £15000 from £2400. Does that make sense to people?

It will never be a negative evaluation, the uplift is by the rate of inflation lets say 3.1% plus 1.5% so your compounded pension over the years multiplied by that.

Respectfully, you need to rerecord this video. The amount of times you kept correcting yourself made this very confusing to follow.

The way they use to calculate the ‘95 was your pensionable pay… namely you gross pay divided by 80… x your contributed years. But as its final salary, it’s the best of your last 3 years. So if you did loads of nights or overtime, it contributes to your pensionable pay. So if you’ve contributed for 20 yrs and your pensionable pay was £60k➗ it by 80 x by 20 it would give you an annual pension of £15k.
