this is true and needs to be heared more! i was kind of a prodijy in math and i wouldnt get to half of where i got without propper teaching from the very beginning .. this is also true to chess and a lot more study's 🙏

I just said 7 goes into 9 once with two left over which makes 21 and the answer is 13. It was super fast. And it would have taken me a long time to figure out 70 and 21.

I always look for the closest denominator in 10. 7 𝕏 10 = 70 91-70 =21/ 7 = 3 + 10 = 13. The school never taught me that.

That's how at least we are tought in my country. we write 91 -- 7 the 13 result takes an avrrage of 5 seconds for a kid

I intuitively broke it down to 70 and 21, had no idea that was number bonds though. my son does them at school but I've never been able to understand what they wanted me to do when they're in his home work, no description or explanation, just "use number bonds to figure this out". so thank you for helping me realise my sons home work is asking me to show my workings 😂

i use anchors that are obvious. like 7x10. then subtract 70 from 91. that's 21 now it's 3 left. but the most important part when you teach a child is, tell them to create their own algorithm. let them know the purpose of math is using mental tools, creating, manipulating, using tools. otherwise doing arithmetic fast is absolutely useless in the modern world
