Was so funny knowing the lore of jayce before arcane and absolutely hating him, and then Arcane came out and I was surprised they made him likeable. Just to go online and see everyone hate him anyways

I might be wrong but I think they hated that his life wasn't completely centered around Viktor, the fandom's precious white fav. That there was another person taking up his time and attention (Mel). You see a similar pattern with Steve and Tony in the MCU, and Steve choosing Bucky in Civil War, or Scott and Stiles from Teen Wolf, with Scott spending more time with Allison over Stiles. Both characters also received mass hate.

jayce is an incredibly wonderful character, but he has plenty of good reasons to be so disliked esp in s1. he became a corrupt politician. people, reasonably, don’t really like corrupt politicans!! and his intent in doing good or realizing that he is going to far and needs to stop before it’s too late doesn’t shield him from the actual harm he causes.

Atleast from my perspective I don’t care about the system that got him there he is who he is, and from my experience in life the people who’ve “been got by the system” are the ones slinging slurs at me, so I don’t think it’s “childish” to dislike a character who embodies that

When ep 6 of season 2 came out and there was that cliffhanger. I did not understood the hate for him, most of the fandom couldn't comprehend that his drastic action at the end of that ep had a valid reason.

People gave S1 Jinx all the grace in the world, writing 1000+ word essays on why her life affected her choices. Those same fans wouldn’t give Jayce the time of day or even give his actions the same consideration. So many of them would proudly admit they skipped all the Piltover scenes, except for Viktors scenes of course. I’m not gonna pretend like it’s not racist that Jayce and Mel were the characters who fans purposely ignored the depth and motivations of the most.

Everyone screaming about him being a corrupt politician when he only did politics for about A WEEK primarily his will, yet he tried to make the best of the situation and use his position to help those the council had refused to for decades.
