@school_counselor_mama: We talk a lot about teaching kids HOW to do chores. But there’s another skill that comes first: noticing. 👀 So much of what keeps a household running happens quietly in the background. Someone notices the toilet paper is low. Someone realizes the laundry needs washed. Someone sees the dishwasher is clean and empties it. If our kids only ever see the finished result—or wait for us to tell them what to do—they don’t get much practice noticing that invisible work for themselves. So say the boring stuff out loud. 😂 Let them hear the thought process behind keeping a home running. This idea was inspired by Sam Kelly’s “Notice & Do” approach, which focuses on helping kids learn to notice what needs to be done and take initiative. 🤍 Because the goal isn’t just raising kids who know how to help. It’s raising kids who notice when help is needed. And this is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I talk about raising kids who actually TALK to us, take ownership, and build the emotional skills they’ll need long after they leave our homes.
