Feels like Cregger is truly passionate about Resident Evil and has put time and care into creating this film. We are taking Cregger for granted especially given the quality of the previous RE films

Still skeptical. Sounds like its a good film…but is it a good resident evil film? Thats the worry.

I definately agree with the thing about committing too much to the bit. There is a lot of comedy in the games, and think it's important for an adaptation to channel that, but the film doesn't really have the same type of humor the games do. In the games, most of the goofy characters take the silly situation seriously, and take themselves very seriously. And the comedy stems from that. I think the protagonist works as this stand-in for the person holding the controller. But the character Paul Walter Hauser played for example that Sydney mentioned, kind of breaks the illusion for a bit, because he acts the exact same way the main character does, when in the games, these types of characters would be self-serious, ego-driven maniacs. And that contrast between character behaviour, I think would not only be funny, but also really sell the main character's journey into unknown territory.

all the jokes, for me, undid any tension he was building. sometimes it felt like the actors were pausing for laughs ngl

I gotta say I love the way you breakdown your thoughts, they just flow very smoothly. I can't wait to watch this one as a long time RE fan

You nailed it. This is exactly how I felt about it. It is really funny but the jokes over and over again made it feel cheap, like nothing matters cause it’s all a big joke. They really could have cooked in the second half by toning down the humor and giving Brian some more character development. Nonetheless, great stoner movie

As someone who got into Resident Evil and Zach Cregger a couple years ago. Love to see that combination of creative forces is paying off. I think this is gonna be my favorite video game movie (BY far). Can’t wait 🔥

Great review! You captured the bit concept well. It was more humorous than I was expecting. Mildly scary. Overall I thought it was good.
