The MCAT is highly dependent on socioeconomic background. The step exams were not as much. You could at least use loans to pay for the resources

I don’t really get these comments about how tests are a proxy for resources. Everything is a proxy for resources, making step pass fail or whatever is going to make residency selection even more tilted to rich people who have contacts to do research and go to big name schools etc

This but for the mcat as well. They make it harder every year otherwise resources would just get better and everyone would score 515+ on exams from 5+ years ago

Can you explain very simply how a comprehensive exam on clinical knowledge is completely unrelated to the quality of clinical care a trainee might one day provide?

Agree with most of what you said but the problem I have is you put well resourced before hard work. A millionaire still has to study to get a good score. I have the resources I need to study but it still takes a lot of hard work during 3rd year.

The issue is no one has been able to come up with a better baseline differentiator than exam scores so we’re stuck with this
