@demystifytheeye: This is what laser-assisted cataract surgery looks like UP CLOSE. For my patients, medical students, surgical staff, or anyone curious about what’s actually happening: 👁️ Suction: Gently stabilizes the eye. 💧 Water bath: Creates a fluid interface with the laser. 🎯 Docking: The laser connects and precisely maps the eye. ⚡ Laser: In this case, I’m also treating astigmatism by creating precise arcuate corneal incisions that help change the corneal curvature and reduce astigmatism. 🔓 Undocking: Suction is released and the laser portion is complete. It may look intense this close up, but patients receive sedation and oxygen to help keep them comfortable throughout the process. And this is only the laser portion. The cataract is still removed and an intraocular lens is placed during the surgery. 📚 For my medical people: The overall technique is called Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS). Using the femtosecond laser to create arcuate incisions for astigmatism can be called femtosecond laser arcuate keratotomy (FSAK).
