I think it's a stupid change. I miss being able to see when an account was created. helped me keep an eye on my friends chats even if I was not a mod and they didn't have a mod available

Public Twitch data could be easily collected and analyzed by third parties. Now that “following since” and following information are private, Twitch has more control over that data, and I could see it potentially becoming another revenue stream for them. It’s part of the Amazon ecosystem, after all. Who someone follows can reveal a lot about their interests, communities, and connections. I think the privacy aspect could also be about preventing third parties from profiling streamers, followers, and viewers based on that information. Why should outside companies automatically get access to it for free just because Twitch made it public? There’s also a personal privacy side. Maybe someone doesn’t want everyone in chat knowing who they follow or having their interests associated with certain creators. Or think about it from the creator’s perspective. Another creator could use that information to target and potentially poach people from another community. It happens. Streaming is incredibly competitive, and when it’s someone’s livelihood, those numbers can mean a lot. I’m not saying this is definitely why Twitch made the change, but privacy and monetization aren’t necessarily competing explanations. Twitch can give users more privacy while also keeping valuable first party data within its own ecosystem.

that's dumb because a big streamer could raid you with the follow/view bots and the one who got raided wouldn't really be able to tell right off the bat

I raided someone the other night since they were playing the same game. I raided when they had 80 viewers. I got up took my dog out and came back to them sitting at 1800 viewers with no raid. Chat barely moving. Even with the 80 viewers it was barely moving. I was like “oh I bet the streamer or someone in chat is view botting them.”
