@history_seeker1: This Tiny Tablet Turns Into A Hand Towel 🤯 Original video credit: IG/@tannny. Placing a compressed white tablet into a shallow, liquid-filled well on a carved stone block causes the dry disc to rapidly absorb moisture and swell vertically into a moist hand towel. Using delicate bamboo tongs, a diner positions the coin-sized tissue into the fluid, where capillary suction causes it to expand upward within seconds. After briefly mistaking the white cylinder for an edible mint, she retrieves the hydrated bundle, unfurls the soft nonwoven cloth, and cleanses her hands at the table. This rapid hydration and expansion process relies on capillary action and the mechanical recovery of compressed cellulose or viscose fibers. During industrial production, nonwoven rayon or cotton fibers are dried and compressed under high mechanical pressure into dense pellets without added chemical binders. Upon contact with water, surface tension and micro-capillary forces rapidly draw liquid throughout the inter-fiber spaces, instantly relaxing the compacted structural network and allowing the elastic fibers to expand to their original soft, volumetric dimensions. Compressed tissues, commonly known as coin towels, evolved as a compact, shelf-stable alternative to traditional damp hospitality towels like the Japanese oshibori. Standard pre-moistened wipes often require chemical preservatives or sealed plastic packaging to prevent microbial growth and evaporation, whereas dry-compressed coin towels remain sterile indefinitely until activated with water at the table. Modern restaurants and hospitality venues frequently incorporate these expandable towels into table service, combining hygienic hand cleansing with an engaging visual presentation for guests.
