This phenomenon comes from the combination of laminar flow and synchronized lighting. When water flows in a very smooth and orderly way, without turbulence, it forms a laminar flow in which each layer of water follows a stable path. If this stream is illuminated by a pulsed or stroboscopic light at a specific frequency, the light hits the water at the same position during each flash. As a result, our brain interprets the scene as if the water were motionless, even though it is continuously flowing. This visual illusion is caused by the interaction between regular motion and the way human vision processes discrete snapshots of light. #LaminarFlow #OpticalIllusion #PhysicsOfLight #StroboscopicEffect #FluidDynamics
