September is National Suicide Prevention Month. I don’t talk about it often but there’s a big reason why this month means so much to me, and why I am honored to be a part of the few asked to participate in this Stream Funraiser with other TARP Streamers. I should have put this out here awhile ago, and I know that. However I’ve been finding it hard to write out the correct words so I think subconsciously I pushed it off. BUT Next Thursday 9-10-26 @ 6pm CST | 7pm EST, I will go live and all funds donated will go directly to Vibrant Emotional Health and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Line. I know this is a very touchy subject, I know almost all of us have experienced a loss this significance. I know I’m not alone in the pain, depression, and anxiety that has taken over my life for a better part of 18 years. The handsome guy with the best smile in my photos? That’s my big cousin, Iv. He was the fifth, Roman numerals, that’s why we always just called him IV. He was found deceased on March 2nd, 2008 in the basement of his home that was up for foreclosure. He died of a self inflicted gunshot wound at some point the week before. We don’t have an exact date. In the 8th grade, I had no idea Suicide was a thing…I had never heard of it before. The death of my big cousin shook our family so deeply; especially his two kids. He just couldn’t see a way out of the living hell someone had made out of his life. & he never let on that he would have done something like this. Literally textbook case: Smiling, happy, never acted differently. He wasn’t okay. & now our family has an ache in our hearts that never goes away. The last week in February, March 2nd and March 8th are the hardest days of the year for me. That’s my reason. That’s why this is such an important fundraiser to me and so many others. More about Vibrant Emotional Health & in the 988 Suicide & Crisis Line; Vibrant Emotional Health’s groundbreaking solutions have delivered high quality services and support, when, where and how people need it for over 55 years. Through our state-of-the-art technology-enabled crisis care tools, local community service programs, and our advocacy and education work, we’re advancing access, dignity and respect for all. 2.5 million people a year receive confidential emotional support through our state-of-the-art crisis services, which include the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and NYC 988. Approximately 50,000 individuals and families have received tools and skills to lead healthy and fulfilled lives through our local community service programs. Thousands of people are helped every year through our advocacy and education work in support of better mental health access and care. We’re advancing access, dignity and respect for all and revolutionizing the system for good.
