So what do you say?" - John 8:4-5 It was a perfect trap for them: - If Jesus said "Stone her," He would lose His reputation for mercy and love, and break Roman law (only Romans could order execution) - If He said "Don't stone her," they could accuse Him of breaking the Law of Moses *What Jesus does in the film:* He doesn't answer at first. Henry Ian Cusick as Jesus just stoops down silently and starts writing with His finger on the ground in the dust of the Temple. The Pharisees keep pressing Him. Then He stands up and says the line you remember: > *"Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."* - John 8:7 Then He stoops down and writes on the ground again. What happens next One by one, beginning with the older ones, they drop their stones and leave — because they all know they are sinners too. At the end, only Jesus and the woman are left. > Jesus says to her: "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" > She says: "No one, Lord." > And Jesus said: *"Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.
