New York’ta benimle 2 saat. Merak ettiğim bir restoranda yemeğe ve kitap yazmaya gidiyoruz✨
Most people get shut down by the county because they ask the wrong question first. If you call and say, “Can I live off-grid?” or “Can I park a tiny house here?” their brain immediately goes to: ‘Nope, we don’t have a rule for that.’ Instead, you need to ask around the topic… use their language, not ours. Instead of: “Can I live off-grid there?” ✅ Ask: “What are the utility requirements for this zoning type?” → That gets them to tell you whether power, water, or septic is required… without you saying “off-grid.” ⸻ Instead of: “Are tiny houses allowed?” ✅ Ask: “What’s the minimum square footage for a single-family dwelling in this zone?” → They’ll usually tell you the smallest home size that qualifies. Follow up with: ✅ “Does it have to be built on a permanent foundation or can it be movable?” ⸻ Instead of: “Can I have a composting toilet?” ✅ Ask: • “What types of waste systems are approved in this area?” • “Do you allow alternative sanitation systems for properties without traditional septic?” → That opens the door to talk about composting toilets after they’ve mentioned alternatives. ⸻ Instead of: “Can I live on my land while I build?” ✅ Ask: “Are temporary living structures (like RVs or cabins) allowed during construction?” You’re not trying to hide what you’re doing, you’re trying to speak their language. Government employees are trained to say “no” to things they don’t recognize. So your goal is to ask questions that help them explain what is possible instead. Want to learn more?
