the '70s and 90s to 2000s models were much more mechanically sound. I had an 84 Town Car and it was just a joy to drive but those transitional years, in an effort to reduce weight and increase fuel efficiency, made for a lot of frustrating engineering bugs. the aod transmission was weak. the wiring harnesses crack and short out with age and lead to tons of fuel delivery problems in older vehicles, and these issues are also present in F series trucks. much of the Interior trim was pressed sheet metal and over time the panels had a way of loosening and rattling all over the place. pretty much everything in the Ford line up including these things had terrible door designs with hinges that would deteriorate and Miss A line, and mechanisms that would frequently break. many years later I had a 2000s Crown Vic, a retired state trooper interceptor. I believe it had chased a perp through a field because it had barbed wire scratches and some misaligned panels up front. despite years of abuse, I never did anything to that car but changed the oil it was absolutely Unstoppable.

Dope I had a 1984 Country Squire 302 V8 4 speed automatic in 1998 brought it for 100 bucks with 138,000 miles on it. Air conditioning was automatic climate control and was ice cold. Had the same rim package as that sedan and that stupid fake wood down the side. drove it for 2 years got up to 170,000 miles sold for a 100 bucks to a guy at work he used it for 6 months because he was going through a situation which got him on his feet and he sold to his nephew for a dollar as his 1st car. While at a mall a couple of kids stole it got involved in a police chase and wrecked it. The car got so many people out of so many different jams. It just would not die even after it was wrecked. They drove it from the impound lot to the junkyard because it just wasn't worth fixing my buddy said he felt bad because they actually drove it in. The thing was still running with 190,000 miles on it.

My first car was a 69 LTD. In 2002, I bought a 98 Crown Vic. Both were great cars...and I'm not much of a Ford man.
