@kareemahemordi: One of the quickest ways to disrespect your husband is to make yourself the standard by which you measure him. You process for three days before making a decision, so when he decides quickly, you call him impulsive. You need to talk through every detail, so when he does not, you call him a poor communicator. You would handle the children one way, spend the money another way, solve the problem differently, and organize the family according to another set of priorities. And somewhere along the way, “different from me” quietly became “wrong.” That is pride. Your wisdom is not God’s wisdom in female form. Your preferences are not biblical mandates. Your personality is not the standard of righteousness. And the fact that you would have done something differently does not automatically mean you would have done it better. Sometimes your husband does not need another lesson on how you would have handled it. He needs room to be himself. Bring your wisdom. Bring your perspective. Bring what you see that he may not see. That is part of the beauty of being his helper. But stop treating your differences as evidence of his incompetence. “And the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’” — Genesis 2:18 NKJV Comparable does not mean identical. Maybe God gave your husband strengths you do not have. Maybe his way of processing protects the marriage from weaknesses in yours. Maybe some of what irritates you about how differently he operates is exactly why God did not give your husband another version of you. Dear wife, your husband does not need to think like you before you can trust his leadership. And you are not the answer key against which his manhood gets graded.
